Get to Know Bo

So you really want to know about Bo?

Born Robert Frederick Mitchell in 1967, he went by “Bobby” growing up, and shortened it to “Bob” by middle school. Alas, Bob was apparently too long and complicated, so it was shortened to the nickname “Bo” in 1985 by the owner of a company called Spirit Unlimited for which Bo worked as a DJ at weddings, school dances, and other parties. He has no plans to shorten his name to “B” nor change his name to an unpronounceable symbol and be referred to as “The Artist Formerly Known as Bo.”  That would be silly. Whatever you do, just don’t call him “Rob” or “Robby”.

Bo calls Minnesota home, as he was born in Minneapolis and grew up in the suburb of Richfield, home of the Spartans. A true homer, the Twins and Vikings have been his favorite teams his whole life. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1985 and from the University of Minnesota in 1990. Bo now lives in Rosemount with his beautiful, wonderful, amazing wife, Kari (who is also a RHS graduate), his 9-year-old son Holden, and their dog, Dobi.  Bo and Kari were married on October 13, 2007 — one year to the day after she asked him to marry her — and just over 13 years from when they first met!

Bo and Kari are active in their church, Community of Hope, where they have been going for several years.  Bo is a writer and Kari is the Executive Director of the Breast Cancer Ride.  The Ride was started in 2008 and raised nearly $200,000 in its first year. Bo was a participant in the inaugural Ride and pedaled all 150 miles. For more information on the Breast Cancer Ride, see the BCR page on this blog, go to the Breast Cancer Ride blog, or visit the web site at BreastCancerRide.org.

Bo Knowz Bo has been participating in fantasy football and baseball leagues for 20 years, since scoring was done with newspapers and calculators and lineup changes were made by calling the commissioner on the telephone. His career has included gigs at several radio and television stations, but Bo found his true calling a couple 13-14 years ago and has been covering fantasy sports professionally since 1995.  Like David Lee Roth once said, he has “successfully confused business with pleasure.”

Bo currently works for the web site FantasyFootballChamps.com as well as Inside Edge baseball scouting services, which provides baseball analysis for the likes of Yahoo! and ESPN. For the record, his eyes aren’t really red; they just look that way in the picture. No, really.

  1. Legend has it that Bo gave the Common Man his nickname, tackled Barry Sanders in the open field, and walked up hill to school both ways. Can you confirm?

  2. These things are all factual… for the most part.

  3. Rumor also has it that Bo puts the needle on the record, invented Ceasar Salad sans tomatoes, and was the first baseball scout to discover phenom Josh Hamilton. Is this true?

  4. Again, what you say is all true… except for those parts that are made up.

  5. Any truth to the rumor that Bo once gave Turd Ferguson a wet willy coupled with an atomic wedgie and Blombshell?

  6. No, that is false. You are obviously thinking of the lethal combination that Frank Mir employed to defeat Brock Lesnar on Saturday.

  7. Is it true that you can sneeze, keep your eyes open AND not break wind simultaneously?

  8. I don’t even think Brandon Jacobs is capable of such a feat, Sir Reggie!

  9. Have you ever seen a grown man naked?

  10. Yes, Jason. Yes I have.

  11. Have you ever seen the inside of a Turkish prison?

  12. Happily, I have not, nor do I ever intend to do so. Have you, Loaf?

  13. Remember when you were in the Beatles, and you did that album Abbey Road, and at the very end of the song it goes, “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”?

    Is that true?

  14. Scooter, that was awesome!
